Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference." - Winston Churchill

I have officially finished my first day of work at Piedmont College! There were so many things that I got accomplished, I can't believe how well things are going. Being the director has so many different hats and layers you have to follow through with that it can be a bit overwhelming, but I think the best way to be successful is to just have a "go get it" attitude. Yesterday I mentioned how we miss 100% of the shots we don't take, in the same way, we don't accomplish nearly the same amount of wonderful deeds by sitting on the sidelines. There were many times in the day I could have worked slower or taken a break and gone home earlier, but you miss out on so many things!
I challenge you to take a leap of faith and surround yourself by others. Today in particular, I was eating lunch and decided to sit with some of the Resident Directors who I will be working with this year. We were just chatting and one of them made a joke and I returned with a quip. She then said something along the lines of "You know what Mark, I think we will get along just fine this year." I know the comment probably didn't mean very much to her when she said it, but it really did make my day. You get so nervous on your first day and hope to be liked by others around you, sometimes just the simplest compliment can make all the difference and make you feel right at home.
I have talked about this before, but you never realize what impact you make on others around you. Negativity can spread like wildfire and this is what so many people focus in on, but so many people forget that positivity can move just as fast or even faster if done correctly. Word is telling me that positivity is not a real word, but I would like to argue otherwise! (It is actually on dictionary.com, so I win!)
So many people think that changing the world needs to be done with some large sweeping motion, but the truth of the matter is that it can be accomplished with just a simple act of kindness toward yourself or toward others. It should all just be done in the right attitude! Well I better head out before I just topics for what seems to be a tenth time in this post. Goodnight all!
Question Time: What is one positive thing you have done today? I know it is not too big, but I waited for a friend to catch up to our group today while they were turning in their lunch dishes. I could have easily waiting outside, but I always thought it means more when you don't leave someone out. Sure it may seem clingy, but I enjoy it when someone waits for me... just shows that they care. Idk maybe I'm just an oddball ;)
About the video: This was one of my favorite songs when I was in church youth group in high school. I even met Steve Angrisano at a conference! It sound a little different from the traditional christian songs, but I always liked the message. Every person has the opportunity to go MAD in this world, they just have to look toward their neighbor and shed a little light :)
