Hello world! If you are new, welcome to the Luminstruct blog! My name is Mark and I am currently working on a "365-Word Project" by posting reflections on various words...Today's word is "Family".
These last few topics have been building upon each other. We talked about success and our hopes and dreams, we talked about how to stay motivated, now here comes the most important topic, your support network to get you there.
Family is the most important thing in this world. When it comes to priorities, I always tell my staff that it is family, personal health, academics, work and then everything else. They are a living and breathing network that always has your back, always has your best interest in mind and always loves you to no end.
Now before I go any further, let me stop and define a family. Although it is very easy to immediately fall back on blood relatives, a mom, dad, sibling, grandparent, etc., I see a family can be any group of individuals who fall within the description above.
Let's call them your biggest cheerleaders.
This can also be your coworkers, friends, significant other, or any other person who you feel close to. Although in my life, my family unit consists of my sister, mom, dad and significant other, I have other families as well, the res life family, my old church group family, my significant other's family, and even the Luminstruct family. If you aren't sure who falls in this group for you, think of who you contact the most? Who is "speed dial-one" on your phone? This is the first person in your family unit.
We all get lonely from time to time, in fact that is the topic for Tuesday, but it is important to always know that you are never fully alone. Some family members pass away, some family members move away, but you always have room for more family. Find that support network, find that group which gives you the drive and feeling that you can take on the world. Without them, you wouldn't be able to get out of bed correctly. Make sure to thank them for all that they do. Most likely you haven't thanked them recently and although you know that they know they are loved, you can never say it enough times. Pick up the phone, call these people, let them know how much they really mean to you.
On that note, with it being Mother's Day, I thank my mother for all that she does and how she has formed me into the man I am today. I love you so much Mom and I can't wait to see you soon :)
Happy Mother's Day to all of the men and women out there who have played a motherly role to someone, you are truly loved and I hope your child tell you this as many times as they can.
