"Only you can control your future." - Dr. Seuss
Hello world! If you are new, welcome to the Luminstruct blog! My name is Mark and I am currently working on a "365-Word Project" by posting reflections on various words every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Today's word is "Future" Trends, friends, and weekends are guaranteed to pass and fade, but you can always count the passing of time. I have always been a fan of time travel movies. The hope of rectifying old wrongs as seen in movies like "The Time Machine" and "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" or simply the attempts to learn what the future has in store for us such as "Back to the Future", I always enjoy seeing the predictions of future times to come. Below are my predictions of what the future may include, enjoy. |
Although I don't think the "double-tie" look from the second "Back to the Future" movie will ever come to pass, I do think there will be a constant rotation of fashion trends. Especially when the world gets a bit more scary, sometimes it is more comforting to resort back to a happier time when there was not as much worry and nostalgia can kick in easily. Men's hair is already getting closer to a 1920s kind of look and the outfits I inherited from my grandparent are cool once more. I do believe women's fashion has a broader loop than men's fashion, so eventually we will start seeing some old classics from women's fashion (possibly a little less conservative though). The one big change I see if the change in fabric. There will always be an attempt to make people's lives easier. In order to do this, I predict the introduction of completely wrinkle free formal wear that will never need to be dry cleaned, clothes which self clean themselves (even when you are wearing them) and are strain resistant.
Travel:
Faster, more efficient and a new energy source. Gas is running out fast and there is going to be a larger need for hydrogen powered or corn powered methods of transportation. Everything will be self driving, and will be connected to the same system for faster response rates in case of emergencies. Space travel will also be picked up once more when resources start to run out.
Social Issues:
Overall, there will be a higher level of acceptance for people. Racial, gender, and sexual orientation tensions will be a thing of the past, there will still be a division between the "haves" and the "have nots". A perfect futuristic movie to express this is "Gattaca". When DNA engineering becomes more realistic, people will be able to pay for "improvements" to their babies or themselves. There will be a decline in sickness, but an increase in mutations as people tamper with chromosomes they don't fully understand. Although religion will become a watered down version of what it is today, this will still be on of the top reasons for conflict. People will still try to create "boxes" they can put people into to help understand their identity, but there will always be shades of grey, things are never black and white.
Education:
More individuals will obtain a higher educational degree. With that being said, college and universities will need to accommodate students they have never had to work with before. Students with specific disabilities (mental and physical), students from different backgrounds, and students with new and exciting beliefs and views of the world around them. The cost will continue to rise (the facilities will be nicer than their homes), but there will be more options available to help financially. There will become more connections between subjects (heading in a liberal arts direction), but students will be more prepared for harder subjects in earlier grades. Developmently speaking, there will be a better understanding of how students think and understand various concepts. There will be less group learning and more individualistic opportunities. Many of these will be online where the learning experience is more interactive and "fun". Overall there will be more education on alcohol responsibility and sexual health.
Technology/Entertainment:
Although it didn't do so well now, wearable technology such as technology in your glasses, watches, or inserted into your arm will become more popular in time. It will be all about convenience. No longer will you need to wait for new TV shows or wait in a drive through line for food. If you think of it, or select it, it will be available in seconds. Virtual reality will take off and you will be present in the experience. Four-dimensional technology will become more advanced so you can "feel" the experience.
Conflict:
As I mentioned earlier, religion will still be a driving force with wars and conflicts. People are passionate about what they believe and if this ever is threatened and it feels like someone else is pushing their beliefs on you, things get rough fast. With that being said, there will be hardships with the concept of ownership of ideas (copyrights), hacking of technology, and the limitation of resources available (especially water and natural gases).
Overall, it will be a wonderful experience. A great big, beautiful tomorrow as it were. It is up to use to form this future. With positivity and an open mind, anything thing is possible, you just need to consider what the future has in store for us.
Question time: What lies in your future?
