Hello world! For those of you who are new, welcome to the Luminstruct blog! I am currently working on a "365 Word Project" where everyday I will be posting a reflection on a word and today's word is "Today".
Every once in awhile I reach a word in this reflection project where I have absolutely no idea where I could go with the post. Today I primarily just got some work done and ran some errands, so there is really not much I can tie into the topic. I guess that just reinforces the topic I mentioned a few days ago. Not everyday should be an adventure, but always do something new in order to make it unique. I ordered some items for the website the other day and they should be arriving next week sometime, so that is exciting. I'm mainly just waiting to go to Piedmont on Wednesday!
So to try something new and to mix things up a bit to avoid my rambling, I found a bag full of random "get to know you" questions hidden in the back of one of my drawers from the previous owner. There are about 100 questions in this bag and I have not gone through them, so we will see how it goes. Here are the first five questions I pull out and their corresponding answers!
1. Can you lie and get away with it?
a. Great question to start off with haha. I would say I do not lie very well, but then again I was able to convince my staff last year I was a part of various false stories when we played the three truths panel game (found in the icebreakers page of this website). To be perfectly honest, I try to make an effort not to lie to the people. I know a lot of friends who get swept into this bad habit, and it only hurts people in the end. I will leave out certain details to help someone out from time to time, but I'll rarely lie to someone, just not the nice thing to do!
2. What news event has had the greatest impact on your life?
a. That is a tough question. I try to only watch news stations which twist the story into a positive light, but one of the biggest events where I can still remember the news story being played over and over again on the tv was on September 11th. I remember our religion teacher hugged all of us as we were going home and everyone was just so scared! I'm not sure what personal impact it made on my life because I was so young, but I do remember the impact it made on others around me.
3. What's the largest number of people you have ever spoken in front of?
a. Public speaking really doesn't bother me too much, I just need to have a script memorized beforehand. I have done presentations and training sessions in front of 100 or so RAs and RSA members. Probably the largest number was talking to my church congregation about an event I was planning or other important information. There were usually over 200 people there or so...
4. Do you prefer to be alone or in a group?
a. When taking the Myers Briggs test, I was actually right in the middle between being an introvert and extrovert. I'm comfortable in both settings. I must say that if I'm alone, I have to be doing something and not just sitting around and if I'm in a group, I prefer to know the people fairly well. I don't really enjoy being in a crowded room full of people I don't know.
5. What is your favorite holiday memory?
a. 7 or so years ago, I created a tradition with my sister where every Christmas she would open a gift made by a fake company called "Mark is Amazing Inc." or MIA inc. (not egotistical at all!). Anyways, each year I add more and more to the company. We have had a company picture taken, different characters created, a company logo, as well as various games and movie series created. Unlike a normal present being opened during Christmas, I make it into an experience where it takes about half an hour. My sister and family still enjoy the event, so I'll keep it up until it gets old. :)
About the video: Have you ever found yourself wondering what a young Batman dancing would look like? Look no further! In 1992, Disney came out with the musical, Newsies featuring a young Christian Bale and other celebrities such as Robert Duvall. The Newsies is a movie about the newspaper strike in New York in 1899. While singing their hearts out, the newsboys seize the day and land on the front page while fighting against harsh working conditions. The songs are catchy, the moral of the story is good, and it's just a great way to spend a lazy afternoon such as today. Goodnight all!
