I wanted to build off our previously built foundation and really dive into a deeper meaning when it came to "light". For those of you who do not know, I happen to be a BIG fan of Harry Potter and was very excited to see the Prisoner of Azkaban was on ABC family tonight. Granted HP is on ABC family all the time, but do we REALLY mind? I came in at the part where Harry was training to shield himself from the negative energy of the dementor and this really got me thinking. What if we were able to take the fire inside of us that we created yesterday and were able to expel it into the world in order to shield ourselves and loved ones from negative energy and further spread the magic of positive memories and emotions throughout the world?
Last semester, I found one of my favorite quotes. "There are two ways of spreading light, to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it" (Edith Wharton). I think this quote is very appropriate for this topic. There is a blazing fire within all of us trying to get out and the only way for this light to be released is if we let it, or come in contact with someone who helps light that candle from within. It is our duty to go light our world with this positive energy within ourselves or reflected from others. The only way to do it is by taking our strongest positive memory and releasing that emotion to the masses.
Try to think of what would be your fuel for a positive emotion, what would be your positive memory what would start a patronus charm? For me, I would probably tie it to my work, I don't think I have ever been so excited until I realized something I had been planning for months was going to happen. For me, this has primarily happened twice. The first time was when I hosted a harry potter program series at Georgia College and was able to bring a yule ball onto campus (I'm sure I will talk more about this event in the future), the other event was when I saw the advertisement for a retreat I created at my church. I had helped create a youth group for college students and we had decided to create a summer retreat to join the weekly meetings. It wasn't until I saw that advertisement for the retreat when I realized all that time had actually come through and this was actually happening. I still keep the bulletin's clip as a reminder that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. So join me and let's raise our candles to light up the sky. Expecto Patronum!
