"To me, eyewear goes way beyond being a prescription. It's like makeup. It's the most incredible accessory. The shape of a frame or the color of lenses can change your whole appearance." - Vera Wang
Hello world! If you are new, welcome to the Luminstruct blog! My name is Mark and I am currently working on a "365-Word Project" by posting reflections on various words every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The reflections can be serious, can be about Student Affairs, or might just be some silly ramblings. Either way, I will do my best to take you on a journey through the personal story of my life. I hope you enjoy. Today's word is "Prescription"Many years ago, I was scheduled to go on a ski trip with my boy scout troop. I couldn't be more excited about this trip. Especially for a kid who has lived in the south most of their life, snow is not a very common occurrence and can be a big deal! |
Why do I bring up this story? The point I am trying to make is too often, we get too consumed by issues in our lives that really aren't issues and we fail to recognize the real problem. Many times we get too swept away in our emotions or our fears to step back and look at the whole puzzle.
Even today, sometimes I worry too often about what others think or I get consumed by other people's issues. I don't take the time to realize what is really important in my life. At the end of the day, the only person you need to worry about is you. It is your responsibility to decide what is important and set your priorities. Is it more important to make a fashion choice, or be hit in the head with a couple dozen branches?
To be honest, sometimes you need to reassess your decision half way through the project. There is nothing wrong with this! It is okay to admit you made a mistake. Too often, I have students who try to cover up this fact or stubbornly try to ride it out, but at the end of the day, you are just hurting yourself. Swallow your pride, put on those glasses and enjoy life's ride!
Question time: What is currently consuming your life? Does it deserve the amount of stress that you are giving it?
