A National Look at New Staffing Models
|
This study investigates how senior housing officers are redesigning the traditional resident assistant model in response to intense fiscal, legal, and social pressures. By analyzing the decision-making of these leaders through the lens of institutional theory, the research reveals that staffing changes are often driven by a need to conform to industry trends rather than finding a perfect, universal solution.

This presentation shares findings from a nationwide study of over 70 institutions to highlight emerging student staffing models that are replacing the traditional RA role. Participants will explore the environmental pressures driving these shifts and receive a "playbook" of actionable strategies to improve staff well-being and community effectiveness. Ultimately, the session provides housing professionals with the data-driven tools needed to implement successful, evidence-based organizational changes.

This handout outlines the various staffing models and their respective pros and cons as discussed in the SEAHO presentation. It also highlights key strategies from the "playbook"; however, for a deep dive into the full framework and research, please refer to the complete dissertation.
