Summary:
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." These truffula trees will add some color to your hall. Just like the Alice in Wonderland Door Decs, these trees are simple to make and most of the supplies needed come in large packs. For halls with many residents, this is an easy way to make good door decorations on a limited budget.
This is a good door dec for the month of April to coincide with Earth Day (which is always on the 22nd). Originally featured in the book, 'The Lorax', the destruction of the truffula trees is a perfect representation of environmental sustainability and the important of preserving our resources. On a larger scale, it represents an individual who identifies a cause they care about and learns how to take a stand for what they believe in. Try to pair this door dec with a program structured around different community service opportunities in your area. Work with your students to identify causes they may be passionate about and discuss ways they can be proactive and help their cause.
Other lessons you can incorporate in your programming may include:
-Oh, the places you'll go- Career Development or Study Abroad
- Sneetches- Diversity and inclusion
- Green Eggs and Ham- Try new food from different cultures
- Lorax- It's never too late for second chances, academic advising
- Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book- The benefits of a good night's sleep
