Summary:
These door decs will easily get your hall covered! Being one of the most simple door decs you can make, this still brings a lot of color to the doors and the majority of the supplies are free of charge! This is an ideal door dec if you have 100+ residents on your hall. Paint chips are free color samples which are often found at your local hardware store or general store. Some of them are large strips with six different colors and others are single colors or only three per sheet (as seen above). To make this door dec, it is easier to find the longer strips if possible to save you some time.
This door dec is especial ideal for a first year building at the beginning of the school year. An easy passive program to do with students is to hang an additional paint chip strip on each student's door and have them fill in different facts about them in each square. This can include: Name, Major, Hometown, Hobbies, What Excites You About Coming to College, Program Ideas. Instruct each student to fill out the boxes and then bring it to your first hall meeting or the first program as a get to know you Ice Breaker. Each student can then read the information about themselves and this can open the floor for discussion about what they would like their hall to be like, what kind of programs they would like to see, or any "community rules" they might want to agree on. Many of them will be very nervous during the first week of school, so to start off with simple questions is an easy way to find commonalities and start building those relationships in the hall!
Other lessons you can incorporate in your programming may include:
- I've Got Sunshine on a Cloudy Day- Inspirational Event
- Fun in the Sun- Sunbathing/Tanning 101
- Throwing Shade- Anti-Bullying event
- H2O!- Water Games, Staying Hydrated or Water Conservation event
